There will be a historic air show in Guwahati when 150 IAF planes, including Rafales, thunder over Brahmaputra

Guwahati is preparing for one of the most spectacular defence events ever witnessed in the Northeast, as the Indian Air Force will stage a mega air show on November 9 at Lachit Ghat along the Brahmaputra riverfront. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the event, which will feature around 150 aircraft, including cutting-edge Rafales, Sukhoi-30 MKIs, and MiG series fighter jets, making it one of the largest aerial demonstrations the region has seen. Announcing the event, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the show will highlight the strength and precision of the Indian Air Force. “On November 9, the Union Defence Minister will attend a mega Air Show at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati, wherein 150 planes of the Indian Air Force will display their strength — including Rafales, Sukhois, and MiGs,” he stated.

This grand spectacle forms part of the IAF’s Air Force Day celebrations in the Northeast and marks the first large-scale air display of this magnitude in the region. Themed “Infallible, Impervious and Precise,” the event is expected to showcase high-end aerial manoeuvres, formation flights, and combat-readiness drills. Transport aircraft and helicopters will also join the display, creating a vibrant and powerful scene above the city. The Air Show aims to not only demonstrate India’s air power but also inspire young people in the Northeast to pursue careers in the armed forces. Officials said the event will underline themes of courage, patriotism, discipline and technological excellence.

Public viewing zones will be set up along the Brahmaputra riverbank to enable citizens to witness the rare aerial spectacle up close. The city administration is expected to announce traffic and crowd-management plans ahead of the show to ensure smooth public participation. Before the Defence Minister’s visit, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will arrive in Assam on November 7 and 8. She will inaugurate major infrastructure projects, including the Guwahati Gateway Terminal and the Guwahati Riverfront Project, and lay the foundation stone of the Swahid Kanaklata Barua State University at Gohpur, adding to a week filled with significant national developments for the state.
