The We Foundation launched Project ‘Atmashakti’ a menstrual hygiene campaign

The We Foundation, in collaboration with Upper Assam Petro Coke Private Limited (UAPC), Margherita Municipality, Assam, and in association with DAY-NULM, Assam, has launched Project Atmashakti, a menstrual hygiene campaign for 1400 adolescent girls and self-help group women at the India Club in Margherita, Tinsukia, Assam. The 12-month campaign aims to raise awareness of menstrual hygiene, break the ‘period’ taboo, and distribute five packets of premium sanitary napkins I-SHINE to every 1400 girls and women for five months.

The project aims to address the lack of access to affordable menstrual products, especially for low-income communities, and spread mass awareness of menstrual hygiene. The campaign will involve 140 women self-help groups (SHGs) and another 10 SHGs or 100 women for house-to-house visits and awareness on menstrual hygiene. The initiative aims to bring about a change of habit among 1400 women and their families in Margherita, allowing them to manage their periods with dignity without interruption to their daily lives.

Nabanita Banerjee, Director of The We Foundation, said “The We Foundation pledges to gift girls and women of Margherita with improved menstrual health and hygiene and provide them wings of hope for bringing about a visible change in their behavior.”
