DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh made the firm decision to stop all rat-hole mining operations in Assam within the following seven days. Singh announced the Chief Minister’s directive to stop illicit mining in the Margherita, Ledo, and Lekhapani areas of Assam’s Tinsukia district at a press conference that followed a security review meeting in Dibrugarh.
The DGP attested to the fact that the implementation of this order had already begun. Two illicit mining operations within the Northeast Coalfields lease area had been located and shut down as of Saturday. According to the DGP, a survey carried out in the Umrangshu area revealed no new mining activity; yet, it was mandated that any remaining coal from previous illicit operations be seized.
Singh talked on the Republic Day celebrations and stated that all security measures are in place to ensure a peaceful observance, in addition to the mining difficulties. He also discussed his recent appointment as the Central Reserve Police Force’s Director General and expressed optimism that his experience in Assam will help advance various regions.
