The Bhutan–India Friendship Football Tournament 2025 began with vibrant energy and a strong sense of camaraderie on Saturday evening at the Samdrup Jongkhar Public Ground in eastern Bhutan. The annual sporting event, hosted by the Bhutan–India Friendship Association (BIFA), once again highlighted the deep and enduring bond shared between the two neighbouring countries.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by the District Commissioner of Samdrup Jongkhar, who welcomed players and spectators to what he described as “a celebration of friendship and sportsmanship.” The opening ceremony was attended by several prominent officials, including Tamulpur Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty, Senior Superintendent of Police Tabu Ram Pegu, BIFA Vice President Gupshwanam Datsu, along with Bhutanese government representatives and local leaders.
A large and enthusiastic crowd turned up to witness the first match of the tournament, reflecting the growing popularity of the event in the border region. The opening clash featured India’s Barpeta Radiance Club against Bhutan’s Changzong FC, setting the tone for the competition. Both teams displayed strong coordination and competitive spirit, keeping the audience engaged throughout the match. After a tightly fought first half, Barpeta Radiance Club broke the deadlock in the second half, securing a narrow 1–0 victory to advance to the next round. Their disciplined defence and quick attacking play drew appreciation from the spectators.
