Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) has taken a significant leap in redefining higher education in India by signing an MOU with NVIDIA to establish the Thapar School of Advanced AI & Data Science (TSAAI). The initiative aims to bridge the gap in AI expertise in the country and foster innovation and research in this transformative field.The collaboration will see the TSAAI set up at TIET’s Patiala campus, equipped with state-of-the-art AI infrastructure. The facility will leverage NVIDIA DGX systems, NVIDIA H100 and A100 Tensor Core GPUs, and the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform, providing 227 petaflops of AI performance. This setup will support a comprehensive range of academic programs, research opportunities, and innovation projects.Dr. Padmakumar Nair, Director of TIET, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “This work will bridge the gap in AI expertise and pave the way for cutting-edge research and innovation. Our vision is to provide education that creates future-ready students.”
Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director of Asia South at NVIDIA, added, “The new AI school will help bridge the gap in AI expertise and pave the way for breakthrough research and innovation in the industry.”Incorporating AI education into the broader curriculum, TIET aims to make all its students AI literate within 2-4 years by offering nine credits of AI training across all programs. The school will also focus on professional development courses for industry professionals and a Master’s program targeting working professionals.
