Tezpur has declared a year-long commemoration commemorating the centennial of Bhupen Hazarika’s birth

A century-long event called “A Century of Xobdo aru Xur” was launched by Chatak, one of Tezpur’s most well-known cultural organizations, to commemorate the centennial of the birth of the renowned singer, composer, and Bharat Ratna recipient Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. Amidst the official launch on September 8, the grand project was inaugurated on Sunday in a musically uplifting environment. The chief guest, Prof. Shambhunath Singh, vice-chancellor of Tezpur University, lit the ceremonial lamp in front of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s image to kick off the inauguration ceremony.

Sonitpur District Commissioner Anand Kumar Das, prominent journalist Gautam Sarma, singer Namita Bhattacharya, and sarod maestro Tarun Kalita were among the distinguished visitors who attended the event. They participated in the ceremonial lamp lighting alongside the primary guest. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Singh proudly mentioned that Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s brilliance originated in Tezpur and referred to him as an unmatched artist, not only of Assam or India, but of the entire world, in his speech.

Dr Bhupen Hazarika, a renowned musician, was honored at Tezpur University, where he was praised for his love for the nation, language, and responsibility in various fields. The event, organized by Chatak Pankaj Barua, aimed to inspire future generations and highlight Hazarika’s life philosophy. Journalist Gautam Sharma, who delivered the keynote, highlighted that Hazarika’s music was influenced by diverse folk traditions, highlighting the importance of recognizing and honoring his contributions to Assam and Assamese culture.
