Tata Power signs a pivotal MoU at Advantage Assam 2.0

Tata Power has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Assam Government to develop up to 5000 MW of renewable and clean energy projects, including solar, wind, hydro, and energy storage. The agreement, signed at Advantage Assam 2.0, entails an investment of ₹30,000 crore over the next five years. The MoU was formalized between Dr. Krishna Kumar Dwivedi, Principal Secretary (Power), Government of Assam, and Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power, in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta BiswaSarma. The Assam Government will facilitate the identification of 20,000 acres of encumbrance-free land and ensure necessary infrastructure support for seamless project execution.

Additionally, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has partnered with Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to expand rooftop solar adoption under the Pradhan Mantri Surya GharMuftBijliYojana (PMSGY). These initiatives are expected to create 3,000 local job opportunities while reinforcing Assam’s clean energy transition.

The development is poised to impact Guwahati’s energy sector significantly. With Assam striving for a 500 MW solar capacity by 2027, the initiative will enhance power availability for businesses, industries, and tea gardens. Guwahati’s commercial hubs are expected to benefit from improved energy efficiency, reduced electricity costs, and increased sustainability efforts. Dr. Praveer Sinha said that Tata Power remains committed to sustainable energy solutions, aligning with India’s target of 500 GW renewable capacity by 2030.
