Tata Motors has secured cumulative orders for more than 5,000 buses and bus chassis from multiple State Transport Undertakings (STUs) across India, strengthening its position as a key partner in the country’s mass mobility sector. The orders were awarded through a competitive e-bidding process under the Government’s procurement system and will be deployed in phases as per agreements with the respective transport corporations.
The orders have been placed by several major state transport bodies including Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation, North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, Bihar State Road Transport Corporation, Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation, Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, the Department of Road Transport under Haryana Roadways, and Chandigarh Transport Undertaking.
Commenting on the development, Anand S, Vice President and Head of Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business at Tata Motors Ltd., said the orders reflect strong trust in the company’s mobility solutions. “Our buses are designed to deliver comfort, safety and long-term reliability across varied terrains and duty cycles,” he said, adding that the company remains committed to supporting state transport undertakings serving millions of passengers daily.
The order includes multiple models such as Tata Magna, Tata Cityride, Tata Starbus, Tata Starbus Prime, and LPO 1618, LPO 1622 and LPO 1822 variants, designed for intercity, intracity and long-haul operations with a focus on passenger comfort and operational efficiency.
In Kolkata, the large nationwide procurement reflects rising demand for reliable public transport solutions as states upgrade bus fleets. Transport operators and fleet buyers in the Kolkata region are also closely tracking such developments, as modern buses with improved safety, comfort and lower operating costs are increasingly shaping public mobility investments in eastern India.
