Tata Haldia Power Project: Journey towards operational excellence

Tata Power’s Haldia Power Project in West Bengal has achieved a record operational excellence, with an impressive plant load factor (PLF) of 34% higher than the country’s thermal plant load factor, and an exceptional auxiliary power consumption (APC) at this configuration and installed capacity, with multiple energy conservation initiatives to conserve natural resources. Located in East Midnapore, the 120 MW facility plays a pivotal role in the region’s energy landscape.

The journey towards operational excellence is a testament to the collaborative efforts of Tata Power’s Haldia Power Project and key stakeholders, including a notable partnership with Tata Steel. Joint initiatives have optimized process parameters and successfully addressed challenges, including elevated fuel gas temperatures. The Haldia plant has also emerged as a pioneer in the adoption of sustainable practices, practicing several noteworthy achievements.

In August 2023, the Haldia team participated in a knowledge-sharing initiative with Electro Steel Limited, aiming to cultivate mutual learning and implement best practices through in-depth technical discussions. The plant operates as one of the waste heat recovery plants utilizing coke oven gases, playing a pivotal role in significantly curbing greenhouse gas emissions.
