Tamang honors founders of K.B. Limboo School on Platinum Jubilee

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang reaffirmed the Sikkim government’s commitment to inclusive and equitable education during the Platinum Jubilee celebration of K.B. Limboo Senior Secondary School on December 18. The event marked 75 years of the institution’s contributions to education in the region. Reflecting on the school’s origins, Tamang commended the foresight of community pioneers who established it through donations and voluntary efforts. “The school’s journey from a humble committee-run initiative to a government institution is a testament to the dedication of our forefathers,” he remarked, expressing gratitude to those who contributed land and resources. Tamang underscored the pivotal role of education in societal progress. “Education is the backbone of society. Without it, progress is impossible,” he stated, emphasizing the government’s focus on making education accessible to all, especially the underprivileged.

Since assuming office in 2019, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government has introduced several transformative reforms in the education sector. Tamang highlighted the regularization of ad-hoc teaching positions, which has enhanced job security and educational quality. The chief minister also celebrated infrastructural milestones, such as allocating 100 acres of land for the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Sikkim. “Previous governments overlooked this need, but we prioritized it to ensure the establishment of a premier institution,” he noted.

Tamang elaborated on initiatives supporting students, particularly girls and marginalized communities. The Bahini Scheme, providing sanitary pads to schoolgirls, and the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Fellowship Scheme, funding students to study abroad, were spotlighted as key measures. “Seven students have already been sent abroad with financial aid of up to ₹50 lakhs, and we aim to expand this further,” he shared.
