A communal clash took place in the Jahangirpuri area on Saturday night centered around the ‘Shova Yatra’ organized on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. Delhi Police personnel were seen patrolling sensitive areas of northwest Delhi at some point on Saturday night to avoid any untoward incident.
Most of the senior officials of Delhi Police, including Special Commissioner of Police (CP), Law and Order, New Delhi, Devendra Pathak, were present on the online violence website while submitting this report. The Special CP while talking to IANS said that the situation is now peaceful and under control.
Pathak added, “We have lodged an FIR of the incident and started investigating the case.”
The elder called upon the respected locals to maintain peace and tranquility in the area.
He said, “There is the sufficient number of police in the area”.
A large number of police along with paramilitary forces should be seen patrolling and manning violence-prone areas.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP leaders on Saturday called the clash a “conspiracy” and demanded an inquiry into the role of “illegal immigrants” in the incident. Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta and birthday celebrant MP Manoj Tiwari said the “attack” on the procession was once “not a spontaneous incident, but a conspiracy”.
Clashes broke out between two communities during a procession in Jahangirpuri on Saturday, injuring scores of policemen is numerous.
Police said stones were pelted once and some automobiles were also burnt in the violence that broke out at 6 pm. Additional police forces have been deployed in the region and various communally sensitive areas.
Former AAP minister and BJP chief Kapil Mishra called the stone pelting on the procession a “terrorist attack” and demanded immediate expulsion of illegal immigrants from the country.
The Delhi BJP president said he would meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and request him to order an inquiry into the violence. He was also confused about how Rohingyas and Bangladeshis living illegally in Delhi were given water and electricity connections in the deal.
Two locals who recorded the movies spoke exclusively to India Today. 30-year-old Anwara said, “I was once coming from the market when around 2.15 pm Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra was crossing the market. I noticed human beings brandishing weapons and that is why I shot the video.”
Sahil, 15, added, “I used to be at my shop. Hanuman Jayanti Yatras had been crossing the market and humans were brandishing guns. The Yatras persisted from 2 onwards. To keep proof, I recorded the videos.”
