Swiggy launches ‘Swiggy Serves’ to tackle food wastage and hunger

Swiggy, India’s leading on-demand convenience platform, has unveiled its flagship program, ‘Swiggy Serves’, to address food wastage and combat hunger across the country. Partnering with the Robin Hood Army (RHA), a volunteer-driven organization, the initiative aims to redistribute surplus food from restaurant partners to underserved communities, with a goal of delivering 50 million meals by 2030.

The program has already achieved notable success in its pilot phase, redistributing over 2,000 meals across 33 cities with the support of 126 restaurant partners, including brands like Biryani by the Kilo, Charcoal Eats, and Samosa Singh. Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, emphasized Swiggy’s commitment to leveraging its logistics expertise to make a meaningful societal impact.

In Guwahati, the initiative has garnered strong interest from restaurant partners and local volunteers. With the city’s growing food service industry, the redistribution of surplus meals can significantly contribute to reducing hunger and minimizing food waste. Guwahati’s vibrant market also presents an opportunity for small and large establishments to participate actively in this noble cause. RHA co-founder Neel Ghose lauded the collaboration, stating, “When an industry leader like Swiggy joins hands with a community movement, it amplifies the impact against hunger.”With India facing alarming hunger statistics—ranking 105th out of 127 countries in the 2024 Global Hunger Index—‘Swiggy Serves’ is poised to make a transformative difference. Restaurant owners can join the initiative via the Swiggy Owner app, while volunteers ensure seamless food redistribution.
