SVEEP Initiative Rolled Out in Assam to Encourage Informed Voting

In the lead-up to the Assam Assembly elections, the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme has launched various initiatives aimed at increasing voter awareness and turnout. These initiatives include a diverse range of activities such as street plays, drawing and rangoli competitions, slogan writing, digital poster making, wall writing, news presentations, and workshops. The Chief Electoral Officer of Assam stated that these activities are organized systematically across all districts to enhance awareness of citizens’ democratic rights and responsibilities.

To engage voters, districts have introduced various mascots, such as ‘Bakhar’ in Lakhimpur and ‘Ganabandhu’ in Sonitpur, while notable figures, including social media personality Abhinav Bora and actor Rajiv Duwari, have been appointed as icons for their respective districts’ voter awareness campaigns. Additionally, in alignment with the theme “Jan Bhagidari, Matdata Shakti” and in honor of World Water Day, pledge-taking ceremonies have been carried out, collaborating with the Public Health Engineering Department under the “Jal Jeevan Mission.”

The State SVEEP Icon, para-cyclist Rakesh Banik, is also set to promote voter awareness across districts. Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel noted the enthusiastic public participation in these initiatives and expressed hope for an increase in voter turnout, urging all voters to exercise their democratic rights.
