Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi, accused of anti-CAA protests and suspected Maoist links, was granted release by the Supreme Court and sought a response from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on his plea.
A bench of Justices V Ramasubramanian and Pankaj Mittal on Tuesday ordered after hearing the arguments of senior advocate Huzefa Ahmadi, appearing for the lawmaker, that Akhil Gogoi be protected against the FIR dated December 14, 2019.
According to sources, the High Court had earlier allowed the NIA to frame charges against Mr Gogoi and three of his associates in a special court in connection with anti-CAA protests and suspected Maoist links.
