Supreme Court refuses to entertain plea seeking stay on release of ‘The Kerala Story’

The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a plea seeking a stay on the release of the film “The Kerala Story” saying it was “hate speech of the worst kind” and an “audio-visual propaganda”.
A bench of Justices K M Joseph and BV Nagarthana was told by senior advocate Kapil Sibal and advocate Nizam Pasha that the trailer of the film released on Friday has garnered 16 million views.
Mr. Pasha claimed, “This movie is hate speech of the worst kind. It is pure audio-visual propaganda”.

The bench said, “There are different types of hate speech. This film has received certification and has been cleared by the board. It is not like a person gets on stage and starts giving an uncontrolled speech. If you want to challenge the release of the movie, you should challenge the certification and appropriate via the forum”.
