The Supreme Court of India has expressed concern over missing documentation in the investigation of a rape and murder case involving a medical student at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud noted the absence of a crucial ‘challan’ document required for the postmortem and has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the matter.
The Court also highlighted a 14-hour delay by Kolkata Police in registering the First Information Report (FIR) and has instructed the removal of the victim’s photographs from social media to protect her dignity. Additionally, resident doctors in West Bengal, who were protesting, have been ordered to resume work by 5 pm on Tuesday, with assurances of no adverse action against them upon resumption.
