Supreme Court extended protection towards Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi

On Friday, Supreme Court extended Protection till March 13 to independent Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi from NIA arrest. The MLA was arrested for connection with a case related to Anti-CAA protests.

According to sources, a bench of Justices V Ramasubramanian and Pankaj Mithal adjourned the matter to March 13 as the petitioner’s counsel was not available. The interim protection will continue till the next date.

Moreover, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had earlier told the top court that Gogoi cannot be granted bail as he is the alleged mastermind of Maoist activities in the state, though the legislator said the cases against him were the result of “political vendetta”. . ,
