A body recovered from a suitcase in a forest area in Haryana’s Faridabad on Thursday afternoon is suspected to be that of a 27-year-old Mumbai woman, Shraddha Walker, who was murdered by her live-in partner in Delhi.
Faridabad Police contacted Delhi Police after recovering a suitcase full of body parts in the Surajkund forest area.
Police said the remains were wrapped in a plastic bag and a sack, and clothes and a belt were also recovered near the suitcase.
In a statement, Faridabad Police said, initially, it appears that a person was murdered elsewhere and a body part was dumped here to avoid detection.
The Faridabad police shared the information with the Delhi police, on the basis of which a team from South Delhi’s Mehrauli police, investigating the gruesome Shraddha murder case, also reached the spot and joined the investigation.
Delhi Police officials suspect that the body recovered from the suitcase could be linked to the Shraddha Walker murder case.
The body parts including the torso found in the suitcase appeared to be several months old. this body part was not clear whether those belonged to a man or a woman, sources said.
They said that the dead body has been sent for post-mortem, and the matter will be clear once the post-mortem report is received.
“Faridabad police officials have also said that they will keep the samples aside, in case the Delhi Police wants to do DNA tests,” official sources told ANI.
Aftab Amin Poonawala, the accused in the gruesome Shraddha Walker murder case, is currently in police custody and undergoing the Perceptual Ability Test (PAT) – a psychological analysis.
Aaftab is accused of strangling Shraddha and dismembering her body into 35 parts. The severed parts of her body were allegedly stored in a freezer before being dumped in a forest in South Delhi’s Chhatarpur.
Aftab and Shraddha met on a dating site and moved into a rented house in Chhatarpur together as their relationship grew.
After receiving a complaint from Shraddha’s father, the Delhi Police registered an FIR on November 10 and arrested the accused later.
Subsequent interrogation of the accused revealed that Aaftab killed Shraddha on May 18 and then started researching ways to dispose of the body.
He also borrowed the idea of disposal from the popular crime show on his streaming device, Delhi Police revealed. He also told police that he had read about human anatomy before cutting up his girlfriend’s body.
Police said that after browsing the internet for ways to remove all traces of his crime, Aftab removed blood stains from the floor of the couple’s Chhatarpur apartment with some chemicals and also threw away all the stained clothes.
He then moved the body to the bathroom and bought a refrigerator, where he stored the dismembered body parts, police added.
