India’s emerging cricket star Shubman Gill says “Strike-rate is kind of overrated”. The 21 years old cricketer made his international test debut against Australia last year in December. He has impressed everyone with his fearless batting style in test matches against England this year where he opened the innings with his partner Rohit Sharma.
Gill made his debut in IPL in 2018 with Kolkata Knight Riders. Since then he has never looked back in his career. For KKR he has played a total of 41 matches in which he has scored 939 Runs with a strike rate of 125.20, which seems to be a little low for a batsman of his caliber. But in a media interaction the right-handed batsman said that he is worried about his strike rate, he is keen to play according to the match situation and adapt quickly as a batsman.
“I think strike-rate is kind of overrated. It’s all about how you adapt to a certain situation. If the team demands you to play with a strike rate of 200 you should be able to do it. If the team demands you to play at a strike rate of 100, you should be able to do it. It’s just about adapting to the match situation. There shouldn’t be a certain pattern to your game where you are only able to play one kind of game and not being able to adapt to different situations,” said Gill as quoted by India Today.
In IPL 2021 he will be seen in KKR jersey and is likely to open for KKR in IPL 2021 and will ample opportunities to improve on his career strike rate.
