Prem Singh Tamang, the chief minister of Sikkim, has threatened to take severe measures against government buildings and gas stations that do not have hygienic restrooms. Speaking at the opening of Lebunba Pungwa Ne-ing Yuk Him (Manghim) in Yuma Yok, Darap, Gyalshing, the chief minister issued a warning that gas stations with dirty restrooms will be shut down and subject to fines. “The people of Sikkim are known for their cleanliness,” said Chief Minister Tamang, highlighting cleanliness as a fundamental Sikkim cultural value. We have to keep this tradition alive. We will prohibit any gas station that has dirty restrooms since it violates our principles.
Police officers will be sent out to check and guarantee hygienic conditions at gas stations in order to execute this mandate. The CM also expanded the obligation to include government offices, giving district collectors the power to penalize officials for improperly maintained office space, including restrooms. CM Tamang went on to emphasize the connection between a clean environment and a good outlook, saying, “How can our thoughts be clean if we live in dirty places? Clean ideas and deeds are fostered by clean surroundings. He called on the government and people to cooperate in order to create a clean and well-kept Sikkim.
