Sterlite Power has successfully commissioned the Nangalbibra-Bongaigaon transmission line, a 400kV D/C Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) project aimed at enhancing energy infrastructure across North-East India. The project ensures reliable electricity supply in Meghalaya and facilitates power transfer from Assam.
Spanning 300 circuit kilometers, the project includes a greenfield substation at Nangalbibra, Meghalaya, with a 300 MW transformation capacity and a 123 km transmission line crossing the Brahmaputra River. Additionally, a 132kV D/C transmission line links Hatsinghmari, Assam, to Ampati, Meghalaya, providing an additional power source. The substation also enables future 400kV expansions to meet rising load demands. Mr. Arun Sharma, CEO of Infrastructure Business at Sterlite Power, highlighted that the project will transfer over 1000 MW of electricity, improve power reliability, and spur socio-economic growth in Assam and Meghalaya. Completed ahead of schedule, the project decongests regional networks and enhances the North-East’s power supply quality.
This development will benefit Guwahati by ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply, supporting industrial growth, and attracting new investments to the region. Improved energy infrastructure will enhance the competitiveness of local industries, boosting economic prospects for the state. Sterlite Grid 32 Ltd has completed 10 projects across eight Indian states and is advancing clean energy transmission to support India’s transition to a sustainable energy future.
