Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Limited has strengthened its healthcare outreach in Assam by expanding Virtual Doctor Consultations and Home Healthcare services as the state enters the monsoon season, when cases of dengue, malaria, fever and other infectious diseases typically increase. The company said its FY25-26 data for Assam recorded a sixteen-fold increase in Home Healthcare utilisation for fever and infectious diseases, while its recently launched Virtual OPD service has witnessed growing adoption nationwide, with more customers opting for it as their first point of medical consultation.
Under the initiative, policyholders can access support through the ‘Talk to Star’ helpline at 7200 222 333, pressing 1 for Home Healthcare and 2 for planned hospitalisation assistance. The service provides guidance on care pathways, cashless treatment, network hospitals and required documentation. Eligible policyholders can also avail cashless home-based treatment, including nursing care, blood tests, IV fluids and injections under medical supervision. Meanwhile, non-policyholders can book free 24/7 Virtual OPD consultations through the Star Health Customer app by registering with basic details and selecting the Telemedicine option. Business Head (Northeast) Amitabh Chatterjee said the initiative aims to encourage early medical intervention, particularly for children, senior citizens and patients who may find hospital visits difficult during the monsoon.
The company cited data from the National Statistical Office’s 80th round survey, released in 2026, showing average private hospitalisation costs of ₹52,766 in rural Assam and ₹79,406 in urban Assam, highlighting the financial burden of healthcare on households. Star Health said its services are intended to offer families easier access to medical advice and treatment before illnesses become severe, while encouraging residents to seek timely consultation instead of ignoring persistent fever.
