“Boycott Sony TV” was trending on the micro-blogging website on Twitter for over a weekend. Along with the boycott call, a section of Twitterati accused the channel of creating “Hinduphobic” content. In case, you don’t know, recently, the latest episodes of Sony TV’s popular series Crime Patrol 2.0 were based on the gruesome Shraddha Walker murder case. But the dramatized version of the case was not well received. Thus, the channel removed the episode from its OTT platform, SonyLiv.
The episode aired on December 27, 2022. Soon after the episode aired on TV, the makers of the show came under fire because the accused character’s name was Mihir, based on the accused Aftab Poonawalla. The channel and the show distorted several incidents for creative purposes.
Meanwhile, the tribute was changed to Anna Fernandes, indicating that the victim belonged to the Christian community, a minority group. But given the details of the episode, viewers immediately understood the reference to the 26-year-old’s murder case.
Episode 212 titled Ahmedabad-Pune Murder Case is no longer available on the channel’s OTT platform. It needs to be mentioned here that the channel has not issued any official statement about the response received online.
