Sony India has announced two new G Master super-telephoto prime lenses for its Alpha full-frame E-mount system — the FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS and FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS — which the company says are the world’s lightest lenses in their respective categories.
Weighing approximately 994 grams and 995 grams respectively, the lenses are designed for greater portability and handheld control while photographing birds, wildlife and sports. Sony said their optimised weight balance places the centre of gravity closer to the camera body, helping photographers maintain framing, track moving subjects and perform panning shots.
Both lenses feature three Super ED and one ED glass element to suppress chromatic aberration and deliver high resolution, while Nano AR Coating II helps reduce ghosting and flare. An 11-blade circular aperture is designed to produce smooth G Master bokeh.
The lenses use two XD Linear Motors for fast, precise and quiet autofocus and support Alpha 9 III continuous shooting of up to 120 fps with AF/AE tracking. Built-in optical image stabilisation further supports handheld shooting.
Sony said the FE 400mm can reach up to 800mm and the FE 600mm up to 1,200mm with compatible teleconverters. Both feature dust- and moisture-resistant construction.
The FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS is priced at Rs 3,10,990, while the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS costs Rs 4,28,990. Both are available across Sony retail outlets, authorised dealers and major e-commerce platforms in India from September 24.
