Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today visited the construction site of the multi-purpose sports complex being built with NLCPR funds at Khanikar in Dibrugarh today.
While taking stock of the quality and the progress of construction, Chief Minister Sonowal asked PWD (Building) to complete construction of the main stadium by February next year. It may be noted that the sports complex is being built in line with the sports complex of Sarusajai in Guwahati.
He asked the implementing agency to make good use of the construction season and time, use the manpower in three shifts to complete the construction in time. Taking stock of the construction site, he asked the executive engineer to make adequate scope and feasibility so that in due course of time and as per exigency, the 25,000 seat capacity of the stadium can be increased. The executive engineer said that for meeting the demands for higher number of seat capacity, the superstructure of the stadium has been built to increase the seat capacity up to 40 thousand.
Sonowal also asked the implementing agency to keep adequate space for parking of vehicles for the professional management of sports events. He also stressed on beautification of the sports complex and asked the concerned functionary to plant adequate saplings around the boundary fencing of the complex.
The sports complex will feature swimming pool, indoor stadium, practice ground, athletic track along with other core and ancillary facilities and once completed the stadium besides hosting international level matches will help the players from Dibrugarh and other neighbouring districts to practice using the state of the art infrastructure.
Union Minister of State for Food Processing Rameswar Teli, MLAs Prasanta Phukan, Rituporno Baruah, Vinod Hazarika, DC Dibrugarh Pallab Gopal Jha, senior officers of PWD (B) and sports depart were present during Sonowal’s visit to the construction site.
