Sonowal pays tributes to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on 9th death anniversary

Dr. Hazarika’s creations promote harmony in society: CM “Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s creations promote harmony in society. His invaluable contributions act as a bridge in taking forward the Assamese community to the global platform”. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said this while taking part at the observation of 9 th death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika organised by Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam at the premises of the late doyen’s Samadhi Kshetra at Jalukbari in the city today. As part of the observation, Chief Minister Sonowal offered floral tribute at the statue and samadhisthal of the cultural doyen. Stating that Dr. Hazarika’s songs carried deeper meanings of life and society, Chief Minister Sonowal urged all sections of the society to join hands to sustain peace and harmony in the state.

Sonowal further said that transcending the boundaries of the country and region, Dr Hazarika was able to establish Assamese identity on the global cultural map and introduced the world to the music and culture of the State. He also urged all to follow the footsteps of Dr. Hazarika to carry forward the State’s rich cultural traditions far and wide. Chief Minister Sonowal also called upon the youth to study the life and works of the ‘Bard of Brahmaputra’ saying that a deep understanding of Dr. Hazarika’s creations would broaden their outlook and boost humanitarian values among them. Minister of State for Cultural Affairs (independent charge) Naba Kumar Doley, MP Queen Oja and Chief Minister’s Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami also spoke on the occasion. While Director of Cultural Affairs Bishnu Kamal Bora delivered the welcome address, the programme was also attended by Chief Minister’s Legal Adviser Santanu Bharali, Commissioner & Secretary of Cultural Affairs Preetom Saikia among others
