SMFG India Credit, a leading NBFC, has successfully concluded the 8th edition of its flagship rural outreach programme, Pashu Vikas Day (PVD), impacting over 1.55 lakh lives across India. Held on February 14 under the theme ‘Sarvottam Seva: Pashu, Parivar aur Pragati’, the initiative focused on strengthening livestock health, family wellbeing and sustainable rural progress. Launched in 2014, Pashu Vikas Day provides free veterinary services and expert guidance to cattle owners. This year, the programme facilitated treatment for nearly 1.4 lakh cattle and extended healthcare support to over 14,000 individuals, benefitting more than 30,000 rural households. The initiative was conducted across 510 SMFG Gramshakti branches in 16 states, reinforcing the company’s deep rural reach.
Managing Director & CEO Ravi Narayanan said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to inclusive growth, noting that livestock health and family security are closely linked to rural economic stability. Over the years, PVD has earned national and global recognition, including listings in the Limca Book of Records, Best of India Records, World Book of Records and the World Records Union. In 2025, it set a Guinness World Record for the largest cattle welfare lesson conducted simultaneously across multiple locations in India.
In Guwahati, financial institutions and rural borrowers view such grassroots initiatives as strengthening trust in NBFC-led rural lending models. With increasing focus on livestock-based livelihoods in Assam, programmes like PVD are expected to support credit growth and deeper rural market penetration in the region.
