Škoda Auto India has officially named its forthcoming compact SUV ‘Kylaq,’ marking a historic moment as the name was chosen through the country’s first-ever national ‘Name Your Škoda’ campaign. This initiative, which began in February, engaged over 200,000 participants, reflecting a strong public interest and involvement in the brand’s major launch.
The winning name, Kylaq, emerged from a shortlist of 10 finalists and aligns with Škoda’s tradition of using names that start with ‘K’ and end with ‘Q.’ Derived from the Sanskrit word for crystal and inspired by Mt. Kailash, Kylaq symbolizes clarity and strength, embodying the SUV’s pristine qualities. The campaign not only allowed participants to suggest names but also vote for their favorites, culminating in the selection of Kylaq.Škoda Auto India’s Brand Director, Petr Janeba, emphasized the campaign’s success in fostering a sense of ownership and connection among customers. “The Kylaq represents a milestone in our journey in India and highlights the deep affinity the public has with Škoda,” he said.
In Guwahati, the announcement has generated significant excitement in the automotive market. As a major hub for automotive sales in Assam, Guwahati’s response reflects the growing interest in compact SUVs, aligning with the national trend of increased consumer engagement in vehicle personalization and naming. The Kylaq, built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, will debut in India in 2025, promising a blend of versatility, safety, and advanced design. It continues Škoda’s tradition of impactful SUV names, following models like the Kodiaq and Kushaq. The top participant in the naming contest will receive the first Kylaq off the production line, while ten others will win an exclusive trip to Prague.
