In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047, the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) continues to empower individuals across the nation, fostering entrepreneurship and job creation. One such inspiring tale emerges from the serene landscapes of Sikkim, where Shital Tamang’s journey from training to entrepreneurship stands as a testament to the transformative power of skills and determination. Under the Skill India Mission, Shital Tamang honed her passion for handloom into a thriving enterprise, M/S Sikkim Handloom and Handicrafts. Beginning her journey in 2013, Shital underwent training through MSDE’s skill programmes from 2014 to 2017. In 2017, fueled by her training and vision, she founded her enterprise with a team of seven, focusing on sustainable practices and quality craftsmanship.
Today, Shital’s enterprise not only provides employment to twenty individuals but also champions eco-friendly production methods, integrating dry plants like cardamom into her creations. Recognized for her contributions to community development and sustainable practices, Shital’s journey epitomizes the success achievable through skill development and entrepreneurship.
Acknowledged as a guest at Republic Day celebrations, Shital attributes her success to the Skill India Mission, expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister and MSDE for transforming her life. With an annual income exceeding Rs. 25 lakhs, Shital aspires to expand her enterprise, further impacting lives and weaving a tapestry of socio-economic growth in her community.
