Sixteen arrested after attack on police, government officials near Guwahati

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the arrest of 16 individuals in Azara, near Guwahati, for assaulting police and officials serving eviction notices to encroachers. He emphasized that a permanent police camp will be established in the area, asserting that all encroachers, described as “unknown people,” would be removed. Sarma pointed out that despite the eviction of 1.5 lakh bighas of land, resistance from encroachers persists, linking this issue to the presence of the BJP in the state. He stated that the illegal settlers are not indigenous and declared that the law would be enforced rigorously against encroachers in tribal and block areas. As the Home department chief, he mandated decisive action against the attackers, prompting the arrests already made.
