Six Assamese tourists were saved after becoming stuck owing to snowfall

Six Assamese visitors were successfully rescued on motorcycles on Monday after becoming stuck in North Sikkim due to heavy snowfall, according to local authorities. Since Sunday evening, the group had been stuck in the Mangan district’s Yakshe area, some 10 kilometers from Lachung. The fact that there was black ice on the highways made matters worse by preventing the motorbikes from continuing their trip. The vacationers found themselves stranded in the harsh conditions as the weather grew stronger. Police responded by planning a rescue operation to get the stranded visitors to safety with the help of locals.

Following the rescue, the Yumthang Valley road was swiftly cleared by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) by Monday morning, allowing traffic to return to the area. Authorities have advised travelers to exercise caution even though the route has been cleared since black ice still poses a serious risk. Authorities advise travelers to assess road conditions prior to embarking on their trips and take all required safety measures to prevent mishaps, especially in the winter when such risks are prevalent.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, in a heroic rescue effort, Trishakti Corps personnel showed bravery and prompt action by saving the lives of five tourists whose vehicle overturned close to Kupup due to unexpected snowfall in a high-altitude area in eastern Sikkim. Some tourists suffered serious injuries as a result of the unanticipated accident. Following their arrival at the Army station, the injured received critical medical care and relief.
