Silchar’s Susmit ‘Bob’ Nath Clinches Filmfare OTT Award for Best Sound Design

From Vivekananda Road in Silchar to the grand stage of Filmfare, Susmit ‘Bob’ Nath’s journey is one of perseverance and creative courage. Nath won the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Sound Design for the web series Stolen (2023) at a ceremony held in Mumbai on December 15. A tightly wound thriller starring Abhishek Banerjee, Stolen relies heavily on mood and atmosphere—elements Nath masterfully crafted through subtle sound layering, minimalistic scoring and powerful use of silence to intensify suspense.

Nath’s love for sound began early. After studying at Silchar Collegiate School and GC College, he explored music through a local band. Financial constraints later forced him to move to Delhi, where he worked in a call centre for almost three years. Despite job security, Nath chose passion over comfort and successfully cleared the FTII entrance exam. Between 2007 and 2012, he trained at FTII in Sound Recording and Engineering, an experience he credits for shaping his artistic vision. Today, Nath’s work features in globally recognised films, including Writing With Fire and All That Breathes, inspiring young creatives across Silchar, Barak Valley and the Northeast.
