The Sikkim State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd. (SIMFED) is bolstering its commitment to organic farming with expanded outreach efforts. Chairman Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia and Managing Director Bhaskar Basnett recently visited the SIMFED office in Rajouri Garden, New Delhi, to review operations and promote sustainable agricultural practices. During the visit, Bhutia toured the organic product outlet and office facilities, emphasizing SIMFED’s dedication to supporting farmers and marketing organic produce.
“Our projects span 19 states and international markets, and we aim to connect more farmers and markets while maintaining sustainability as our core focus,” Bhutia stated. SIMFED’s flagship initiative includes the ‘Sikkim’s Organic’ stall at Gangtok’s Kanchenjunga Shopping Complex, which features the state’s certified organic produce. Additionally, the federation supplies seasonal flowers like Cymbidium orchids, Oriental lilies, and Gerberas to markets in Delhi and Kolkata.
With a network of 191 primary cooperative societies across Sikkim’s districts, SIMFED plays a vital role in promoting organic farming and boosting regional economic growth. The organization’s focus on sustainability aligns with Sikkim’s reputation as a fully organic state, paving the way for national and global recognition.
