Sikkim’s Lamin Theengh dominates 35th National Strength Lifting Championship, wins four golds

The 35th National Strength Lifting and Incline Bench Press Championship concluded in spectacular fashion at Palzor Stadium, Gangtok, on November 13, 2025, with over 750 elite athletes from 22 states participating in the four-day event. The championship, held from November 10 to 13, showcased India’s top strength athletes and highlighted Sikkim’s growing stature as a host for major sporting events. Organized under the leadership of the Sikkim Strength Lifting Association, led by Mr. Pema Dorjee Bhutia, Mr. Allen Targain, and Ms. Chandrakala Pradhan, the event was widely praised for its seamless execution and competitive spirit.

Among the standout performers, Ms. Lamin Theengh of Silverback Gym emerged as the undisputed star. Competing in the 65kg Master One Women’s category, she clinched gold medals in both the individual Incline Bench Press and Strength Lifting events. Building on this remarkable achievement, she went on to secure the prestigious overall “Champion of Champions” titles in both disciplines, marking a rare quadruple victory at the national level.

“I am overwhelmed and deeply grateful for this incredible experience. My victories are a testament to relentless hard work and the exceptional guidance of my coach, Mr. Nima Norbu Lama,” Ms. Theengh said. She added, “I hope my performance inspires more women, especially from Sikkim, to pursue strength sports and discover their own power.” Balancing a professional career alongside her athletic pursuits, Ms. Theengh serves as Deputy Director of Tourism and Civil Aviation for Namchi district, demonstrating remarkable dedication in both fields.
