Sikkim Youth Urged to Participate Actively in Community Development and Democratic Processes

The Youth Council of the Citizen Action Party–Sikkim (CAP–Sikkim) held an important meeting on Sunday at Mellidara in South Sikkim, where party leaders and council members gathered to discuss issues related to youth welfare, social responsibility, and the constructive role of young people in society. The meeting was chaired by Party President Ganesh K. Rai and saw the participation of several Youth Council members who shared their views and suggestions on strengthening youth engagement across the state.

According to the party, the meeting was organised with the objective of creating a platform where youth representatives could openly discuss the challenges faced by young people and identify practical steps to address them. Members spoke about the importance of building awareness among the youth regarding social responsibilities, leadership qualities, and the need to take part in activities that support community development. Participants also stressed that young people must remain informed, disciplined, and socially responsible in order to contribute effectively to the progress of the state.

One of the key points discussed during the meeting was the need to create more opportunities for youth education and orientation. In this regard, the Youth Council proposed organising a Youth Orientation Programme under the banner of the Citizen Action Party–Sikkim. The programme is expected to focus on introducing young individuals to the party’s principles, ideologies, and long-term vision for the development of Sikkim. Leaders explained that such orientation programmes would help young participants better understand democratic values, public service, and responsible citizenship, enabling them to participate more actively in social and political processes.

Speakers at the meeting said that youth play a very important role in shaping the future of society. They noted that many young people today are energetic, capable, and eager to work for social change, but they often need guidance, direction, and proper platforms to channel their potential in the right way. By organising structured orientation programmes and awareness campaigns, the council believes that the youth can be encouraged to work in a more organised and constructive manner for the benefit of the community.

Another major focus of the discussions was the importance of maintaining peace, harmony, and unity in society. The leadership appealed to young people across Sikkim to stay away from all forms of violence and negative activities that can disturb social stability. Members highlighted that peaceful participation in democratic activities is the best way for youth to express their ideas and contribute to policy discussions. They stressed that a peaceful environment encourages more people, especially young citizens, to take part in public affairs and community development programmes.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of inclusiveness and mutual respect among different sections of society. Leaders said that young people must learn to work together beyond social, cultural, or political differences and focus on common goals such as development, education, employment, and environmental protection. According to them, unity and cooperation among youth from different backgrounds can play a key role in strengthening democratic values and ensuring balanced growth in the state.

Participants further discussed the need for collective action in addressing issues faced by young people, including employment opportunities, skill development, and awareness about civic responsibilities. Members expressed the view that youth organisations should work closely with local communities, educational institutions, and social groups to create programmes that support skill-building, leadership training, and social awareness. Such initiatives, they said, would help young people become more confident and capable of contributing to society in meaningful ways.

During the discussions, the Youth Council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies and programmes that aim at building responsible and empowered youth in Sikkim. Leaders said that the council would continue to organise meetings, workshops, and awareness drives in different parts of the state so that young people can remain informed about issues that affect them and can participate actively in decision-making processes. They added that youth participation is essential for achieving long-term goals related to good governance, social harmony, and sustainable development.

Party representatives also noted that the success of any development initiative largely depends on the active involvement of the younger generation. They said that when young people understand democratic systems, respect the rule of law, and work with a sense of responsibility, they become strong contributors to nation-building. The council therefore plans to expand its outreach activities and encourage more young individuals to join programmes that promote civic awareness and leadership development.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Youth Council called upon the youth of Sikkim to take part actively in democratic processes, including community-level discussions, social service activities, and awareness programmes. Leaders urged them to remain committed to the values of peace, discipline, and cooperation while working for the betterment of society. They also emphasised that positive participation by young citizens can help create a more inclusive and progressive environment in the state.

The Youth Council of the Citizen Action Party–Sikkim stated that it will continue working toward building a network of aware, responsible, and socially committed youth who can contribute to the long-term development of Sikkim. The council believes that with proper guidance, opportunities, and community support, young people can play a central role in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting sustainable growth across the region.
