In a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, Sikkim Police seized a large quantity of illegal drugs and arrested three individuals in Namchi district earlier this week. The successful operation was carried out by officials of Temi Police Station, who acted on specific intelligence inputs and intercepted a suspicious vehicle in Dalep, under Namchi district.
The vehicle, a four-wheeler bearing registration number SK 06 Z 0114, was stopped during a coordinated police checking drive. Upon thorough inspection, the team discovered a significant stash of controlled substances, legally falling under the category of “commercial quantity.” According to police officials, the drugs, if circulated in the market, could have caused serious social damage and endangered vulnerable sections of society.
Those arrested have been identified as Roshan Rai (31), son of Late Mohan Rai, resident of Tikjuk, Gyalshing, who was also the driver of the intercepted vehicle; Prakash Rai (41), son of Late Kamal Rai, resident of Tikjuk; Bishal Rai (35), son of Bijya Kr Rai, resident of Boom Bara Samdong, Kaluk. All three accused were immediately taken into custody. Police sources said preliminary interrogation has already begun, and efforts are being made to identify the larger supply chain and the intended destination of the seized drugs. A case has been registered under the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act (SADA). Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against those involved, and the matter is being investigated from multiple angles, including possible links with inter-state trafficking networks.
