Sikkim CM Tamang highlights the role of Pilgrimage Tourism in state’s economic growth

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated the Cultural Centre and Rinchen Chholing Monastery at the Rabindranath Tagore Complex, Megi Dara, Rinchenpong, on December 1. The event was graced by His Eminence Tulku Sangay Yonten Gyatsho Rinpoche and witnessed by dignitaries and locals alike. In his address, CM Tamang extended congratulations to the Tourism Department, Monastic Committee, and the people of Sikkim for this landmark achievement. He emphasized the project’s potential to bring transformative benefits to local communities by boosting tourism, a critical driver of the state’s economic growth.

“This initiative aligns with our vision of promoting Pilgrimage Tourism, which not only fosters spiritual enrichment but also propels economic progress. While government jobs may be limited, the private sector offers vast opportunities for growth and self-reliance,” Tamang said. Highlighting the state’s broader developmental agenda, the Chief Minister outlined plans to enhance education, develop robust tourism infrastructure, and create spiritual sanctuaries. These efforts, he noted, reflect a commitment to inclusive and sustainable progress while preparing Sikkimese youth for global opportunities.

Tamang expressed gratitude to all attendees, including His Eminence Rinpoche and members of the Sangha, for their contributions to the project’s success. He lauded the collective efforts of Sikkim’s people in preserving the state’s natural beauty, reinforcing unity, and working towards a sustainable future.
