Sikkim CM inaugurates world’s largest Zang-dok-palri temple to promote cultural heritage

A significant milestone for the state was reached on November 11, 2024, when Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang dedicated the largest Zang-dok-palri Temple in the world at the Denjong Mindrolling Monastery. The consecration of the monastery was another aspect of the ceremony that attracted people from all across Sikkim and beyond. CM Tamang, who spoke during the event, emphasized the event’s importance for Sikkim and the larger Himalayan community. The temple has been under construction since 2017, but the COVID-19 outbreak caused delays. He expressed his delight in seeing the temple completed.

“No one from the Sangha constituency was ever given a cabinet position by the SDF for 25 years. However, in just five years, we have allotted almost ₹150 crore to fund monasteries and religious establishments, including building numerous idols for temples throughout Sikkim and guest rooms in Bodh Gaya,” Tamang stated. The Sangha constituency has seen tremendous growth under his leadership, and the Chief Minister also praised the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) for giving it the attention it deserves. He noted that the Sangha constituency’s winner, Sonam Lama, was appointed to the government and given control of one of Sikkim’s biggest departments.

On National Education Day, which commemorates the birth of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first education minister, the ceremony was held. “Being a melting pot of different cultures, Sikkim thrives on mutual respect and understanding across religious lines,” Tamang stated, recognizing the role that education plays in the improvement of the state.
