Sikkim and central government collaborate to enhance agricultural growth

Sikkim’s Agriculture Minister Puran Kumar Gurung met with Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, in New Delhi on November 27 to discuss strategies for enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability in the state.The meeting emphasized Sikkim’s commitment to sustainable farming and the need for continued support from the central government. Chauhan assured Gurung of unwavering assistance to boost Sikkim’s farming sector, particularly in promoting organic practices and improving farmers’ welfare.

Key discussions revolved around introducing advanced agricultural technologies, enhancing productivity through innovative schemes, and addressing the challenges faced by farmers. Both ministers highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts between state and central governments to achieve tangible outcomes. “Sikkim’s unique position as an organic farming pioneer requires targeted initiatives to ensure productivity aligns with sustainability,” Chauhan stated, reaffirming the Centre’s dedication to empowering farmers and strengthening the agriculture sector.
