Sikkim’s trail runner Shanti Rai has brought pride to her state by securing first place in the Kohima Ultra Trail 70 km open female category at the Trail Run Championship held in Kohima, Nagaland, on November 8, 2025. She completed the challenging 70-kilometre run in 10 hours and 52 minutes, earning applause from fellow runners, sports enthusiasts, and people across Sikkim. The Kohima Ultra Trail is known for its tough route, steep hills, and rough mountain paths that test both physical strength and mental endurance. Competing against experienced runners from across the country, Shanti displayed remarkable stamina, focus, and willpower throughout the race. Her performance not only earned her the top spot but also showed her steady growth as one of Sikkim’s most promising long-distance runners.
After the race, Shanti expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported her during her preparation and journey. “I want to thank everyone who stood by me, both morally and financially. Their support helped me believe in myself and keep going even when things were tough,” she said.
Known for her humble nature and strong dedication to fitness, Shanti has been training for years, often running through Sikkim’s hilly terrain to build endurance. Her success at the Kohima Ultra Trail has once again shown how determination and consistent effort can lead to great achievements even in the most demanding conditions.
