Shah lays foundation for second Assam Legislative Assembly building in Dibrugarh

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today laid the foundation stone for Assam’s second legislative assembly complex in Dibrugarh. The upcoming assembly complex is expected to take governance closer to the people in Upper Assam region. The Rs 284 crore assembly complex and MLA hostel are part of the state government’s efforts to establish Dibrugarh as the second administrative hub of Assam. Shah also launched projects worth hundreds of crores of rupees, including restoration and rejuvenation of wetlands of Assam, expansion of Khanikar Stadium and the Institute of Wildlife Health and Research. Addressing the gathering, Shah said, “This is a new Assam which finds priority at the highest levels of our government for any development and welfare project as opposed to the Congress era when the only thing Assam got was violence and unrest.” Shah unveiled the projects in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal, MPs and MLAs of the upper Assam constituencies, several state cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
