Setback for Congress in Assam as Pradyut Bordoloi Quits Party Amid Allegations of Neglect

In a major setback for the Congress in Assam, Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi resigned from the party on March 17, bringing an end to his long association with the organisation. He said the decision was painful and went against one of the most important principles of his life.Bordoloi confirmed that he had submitted his resignation to the president of the All India Congress Committee. His exit comes at a time when the party in Assam is already facing internal issues and leadership challenges.Speaking about his decision, Bordoloi said he was not happy with the step he had taken. He described it as an emotional moment and said it was not an easy choice after spending most of his political life in the Congress. “I abandoned one of the most important principles of my life. I am not happy with this decision,” he said.

The senior leader pointed to growing internal problems within the party as the main reason for his resignation. He said he had been facing repeated instances of disrespect and neglect from within the organisation, especially in the Assam unit of the Congress. According to him, the situation had become difficult to handle over time.“I was being insulted on many issues by anyone who approached me from within the Congress Party, especially in the Assam Congress. Even the leadership was not showing sympathy towards me,” Bordoloi said, describing what he called a worsening internal environment.

He also spoke about feeling isolated within the party in recent times. Bordoloi said that despite his long-standing commitment and loyalty to the Congress, he had been finding it difficult to continue under the current circumstances. “I have become very lonely because I have been associated with the Congress all my life. But of late, I have been having a lot of difficulty surviving,” he added.
