Seismic Safety Conclave Organised At NEDFi In Guwahati

A seismic safety awareness programme organised by NeFocus in collaboration with RVC was held at the NEDFi Auditorium on Saturday, highlighting the need for collective action to reduce earthquake risks in Northeast India.

The conclave brought together geoscientists, subject experts, students, researchers and government officials to deliberate on effective earthquake preparedness and management strategies. Gaikungam Rongmei, Director of the Earthquake Division at the Geological Survey of India, spoke about the region’s high seismic vulnerability and emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts to address the risks.

UNICEF Coordinator Anand Kanu and geologist Hemanta Borgohain also addressed the gathering, sharing valuable insights on earthquake-resistant construction practices and the role of public awareness in disaster preparedness. A mock drill was conducted during the event to demonstrate practical safety and response measures in the event of an earthquake.

More than 200 participants, including students, senior citizens, volunteers and media personnel, attended the programme, reflecting growing awareness and concern about seismic safety in the region.
