Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has indicated that the recent increase in security for Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and MP Gaurav Gogoi is connected to alleged internal strife within the Congress party. Gogoi raised concerns about security lapses, which led the state Home Department to allocate additional security measures, including three personal security officers and an escort, after he claimed threats to his safety. In response to media inquiries in Bongaigaon, Sarma stated that Guwahati Police had received specific intel regarding an alleged plan to fabricate an incident for “sympathy.” He confirmed that an investigation was underway and that one person had already been arrested. Sarma alleged that some individuals associated with a group called “Inclusive MyGao,” as well as Congress members, were involved in orchestrating this plot, promising to disclose full details post-investigation.
Additionally, Sarma rejected FIRs lodged by Congress MLAs Shivamoni Bora and Diganta Barman, who accused him of making communal remarks, asserting that such legal actions would not dissuade him. He reiterated his longstanding allegations concerning Gogoi’s supposed connections to Pakistan, referencing Gogoi’s own admission of traveling to Rawalpindi without a visa during a recent press conference. Sarma stated that the onus of any further inquiry now lies with the central government, indicating that it is up to them to assess the situation further.
