Security forces arrested three alleged active members of proscribed insurgent groups during separate operations in Imphal West district of Manipur on September 13, officials said.
The operations were carried out by personnel of the Combined Dedicated Operations-IW (CDO-IW), with intelligence inputs corroborated by Assam Rifles units. The three individuals were arrested from different locations in the district and were allegedly involved in activities including extortion.
In the first operation, a CDO-IW team, acting on specific intelligence corroborated by 31 Assam Rifles, arrested an alleged active cadre of the KCP (PWG) from the Moidangpok area.
The arrested individual was identified as 26-year-old Thangjam Sanatomba Singh, alias Thembung, son of Thangjam Indramani Singh of Moidangpok Makha Leikai in Imphal West.
In a separate operation, CDO-IW personnel conducted a search at Takyel Khongbal Leirak Achouba based on intelligence corroborated by 33 Assam Rifles. During the operation, the security team arrested 26-year-old Sanjenbam Albert Meetei, alias Lukhoi, son of the late S Leisemsana Meetei.
According to officials, Albert Meetei was an active member of the KCP (Apunba) and was allegedly involved in extortion activities.
The third arrest took place in the Patsoi Unik-Khong Bazar area. The CDO-IW team arrested 48-year-old Khongbantabam Inao Singh, alias Iboyaima, son of the late Kh Moirangningthou Singh of Patsoi Part-III Mamang Leikai.
Officials identified Inao Singh as a member of PRE-PAK (PRO) and alleged that he was also involved in extortion-related activities.
During the operations, security personnel recovered Rs 18,500 in cash and a mobile handset. The recovered items have been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
Officials said further investigation is underway to establish the activities of the arrested individuals and examine their alleged links with the respective insurgent organisations.
The arrests are part of continuing security operations in Manipur aimed at identifying and apprehending suspected members of proscribed insurgent groups and investigating activities such as extortion.
