Seagate launches next-gen Mozaic 4+ platform with up to 44TB hard drives to power AI-scale data growth

Seagate Technology has announced its next-generation Mozaic™ 4+ storage platform, introducing the industry’s highest-capacity hard drives designed to support the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and large-scale data centres. The company said the Mozaic 4+ platform, built on heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) technology, is the only HAMR-based storage platform currently deployed at scale. The platform supports hard drives with capacities of up to 44TB and is already qualified and in production with two leading hyperscale cloud providers.

Seagate said the new system incorporates a next-generation suspension architecture and an enhanced system-on-a-chip, enabling precise data recording at higher densities while maintaining enterprise-class reliability. The company aims to scale from the current 4+TB per disk toward a future 10TB per disk, paving the way for hard drives with capacities of up to 100TB. “Data has become one of the most valuable assets for enterprises,” said Dave Mosley, chair and chief executive officer of Seagate, adding that HAMR-based Mozaic products provide the scale and efficiency required to unlock the full potential of enterprise data in an AI-driven world.

Seagate highlighted that its vertically integrated nanophotonic laser technology, designed and manufactured in-house, strengthens supply chain resilience while improving reliability and manufacturing efficiency. In Kolkata, technology distributors and enterprise IT solution providers believe the demand for high-capacity enterprise storage solutions is likely to grow as companies expand their AI, cloud computing and data analytics infrastructure. Industry observers say the eastern India market, including Kolkata, is witnessing rising adoption of large-scale storage systems among IT service firms, data-centre operators and digital businesses, which could benefit from next-generation platforms such as Seagate’s Mozaic 4+.
