The SBI Green Marathon Season 6 took place in Guwahati, attracting over 4,000 participants to the Sarusajai Sports Complex on Sunday, reinforcing its commitment to fitness and environmental sustainability. Following successful events in Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bhopal, and Visakhapatnam, the marathon emphasized its core message, “Run for a Greener India,” in the backdrop of Guwahati’s scenic hills and the Brahmaputra river, showcasing the city’s dedication to eco-conscious living and community welfare.
Key dignitaries such as Shri Prabhas Bose, Chief General Manager, SBI Guwahati Circle; Shri Safal Tripathi, General Manager, Network 1; Shri Amaresh Kr Jha, General Manager, Network 2; and Shri B. Maharana, MD, NEEPCO, inaugurated the event, symbolizing SBI’s leadership in sustainability initiatives throughout India.
In alignment with its green philosophy, the marathon incorporated various eco-friendly practices, providing participants with organic t-shirts, plantable BIBs, and reusable cloth goodie bags to ensure a zero-waste experience. Hydration was facilitated through black alkaline water for recovery, while waste management was handled by Skrap, ensuring proper segregation, recycling, and disposal of waste, with a comprehensive sustainability report forthcoming.
The event’s atmosphere was enhanced by Mirchi RJ Gaurab and RJ Susmita, who engaged the crowd with commentary. Competitors participated in three categories: the 5K, 10K, and the AIMS-certified 21K half marathon, attracting a diverse range of athletes including seasoned runners, fitness enthusiasts, and first-time marathon participants, all benefiting from the serenity of the Guwahati route.
The successful execution of the sixth edition in Guwahati further solidified the city’s reputation for advocating sustainability, fitness, and community involvement. As the marathon progresses through its 17-city tour, SBI remains committed to motivating citizens across India to undertake meaningful actions towards a cleaner and greener future.
