Sarma maintains his stance on evictions and governance reforms while urging Bodo political unity

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called for greater political consolidation in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD), stressing the importance of unity among key regional forces ahead of the next elections.During his visit to Anandpur in Baksa district’s C-Block, Sarma attended the Vijay Sankalp Sabha in Koklabari and Salbari constituencies, where he offered strategic advice to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and supporters. Addressing the media, he expressed hope that the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and prominent leader Anjali Daimary could eventually come together.

“If we sit for discussions, it will be easier,” he said, adding that even if a formal merger does not take place before the elections, efforts will continue with the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) to forge unity in the future. Responding to the ongoing “honey trapping” controversy, Sarma dismissed the allegations outright. “I am performing my duties. No matter what conspiracy anyone hatches, they cannot succeed. These things are not part of our culture,” he remarked. The Chief Minister also pressed for governance reforms in BTAD, advocating for the abolition of the Village Council Development Committee (VCDC) system. He said the BJP must secure a decisive role in forming the regional government to implement such changes effectively.

On eviction drives, Sarma reiterated his long-held position that no land in Assam should belong to suspected foreigners. Taking a swipe at opposition leaders, he said, “Gaurav Gogoi and Akhil Gogoi have no role in this matter. Those evicted are not poor; they own large buildings and are wealthier than most journalists.” He further clarified that the revision of the state’s voters’ list is the sole prerogative of the Election Commission.
