In a major push toward building a future-ready workforce, Samsung on Wednesday felicitated 750 students under its flagship Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) programme at Brainware University, Kolkata. The certified batch includes 400 graduates in AI Coding & Programming and 350 students in Artificial Intelligence (AI)—a significant addition to the state’s growing digital talent pool.
The event was attended by Prof. Sankar Gangopadhyay, Vice Chancellor of Brainware University, Mr. Saroj Aapto, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI), and senior Samsung leadership. Samsung said the initiative is part of its nationwide mission to skill 20,000 young Indians in 2025. The company emphasised that West Bengal, with its strong engineering legacy, is emerging as an important hub in the country’s technology pipeline. Kolkata’s tech ecosystem has seen rising demand for skilled professionals in AI, IoT, big data, and programming. With accelerated digitalisation across banking, IT services, logistics, and manufacturing, the city is increasingly reliant on trained youth. Samsung’s latest skilling drive is expected to support local hiring and enhance the talent readiness of the Kolkata market.
The SIC programme aligns with the Skill India and Digital India missions, providing training across AI, IoT, Big Data, and Programming, with a strong focus on inclusivity—44% of participants nationally are women. Samsung is conducting similar drives across 10 states, including recent events in Gorakhpur. In addition, Samsung’s DOST (Digital & Offline Skills Training) programme continues empowering youth with retail and frontline career skills, strengthening long-term employability and entrepreneurship in India.
