Samaguri become eyewitness of political violence during upcoming voting season

With Assam’s by-elections drawing near, the Samaguri constituency in Nagaon district has become a hotbed of violent clashes between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, as political rivalry escalates in the lead-up to the November 13 polls. Multiple violent incidents have left party workers from both sides injured, adding tension to the already volatile pre-election atmosphere.

On Monday, a confrontation in Bogamukh village turned violent, injuring two BJP workers, Abdul Hannan and Ruhul Amin. The altercation began when BJP members allegedly filmed inside the Congress election office, which Congress supporters saw as a deliberate provocation. Police from Rupahihat station intervened to defuse the situation, dispersing the crowd and restoring calm.

This incident follows a pattern of unrest in the area. Over the weekend, a BJP worker was attacked by unidentified assailants, and three Congress offices were vandalized. Just a day prior, BJP members Yasin Ali and Sahjahan Ali were injured in a separate clash with Congress workers. Adding to the chaos, police seized Rs 1,11,800 in cash on October 31, reportedly being transported in violation of election laws, sparking allegations of misconduct.

Another notable incident occurred on October 24, when BJP workers allegedly attacked journalists covering Congress candidate Tanzil Hussain’s return after filing his nomination, injuring at least 15 members of the press.
